Benefits Of The Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 Web Client

With Microsoft’s release of Dynamics GP 2016 came a new web client that offers cross-browser, cross-device access to all of GP’s standard functionality.

The new, improved web client for Dynamics GP 2016 requires initial server setup, but after that, it’s ready to go and accessible to the members of your team to whom you assign login credentials (using Active Directory credentials for user authentication).

Dynamics GP 2016’s web client is built entirely in HTML5, which means it allows you to use Dynamics GP via nearly any HTML5-compatible browser (such as Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari) and on iOS and Android devices. The cross-platform, cloud-based access is completely secure if installed correctly with SSL certificate. And it’s much faster than the original version, which was written in Silverlight.

A few of its other advantages include:

  • It streamlines access for remote users, requiring just username and password to get into the system. It benefits IT staff members, too, because it’s far less complicated and time-consuming to implement than VPN and remote desktop gateways.
  • It offers faster Dynamics GP deployment to on-site employees. Rather than installing the Dynamics GP client on individual users’ workstations, you can let them log in via their Internet browser.
  • It has an intuitive, easy-to-navigate user interface that facilitates productivity. Most employees will find it comfortingly familiar because it resembles other Microsoft web applications.
  • It gives users access to basic GP functionality. So your employees can use all standard GP windows and reports and perform familiar tasks (for example, using Smartlists and exporting Smartlists into Excel).
  • It allows users to access most third-party GP windows.
  • It offers a window search function to make it simple to navigate the interface.

Although the new web client offers a host of benefits, we’d be remiss not to share what it cannot do.

  • It will not integrate from Integration Manager.
  • It does not display VBA (visual basic for applications) modifications.
  • The journal entry Excel Copy/Paste feature currently does not work.
  • You cannot use it to print Mekorma MICR checks. As of March 2017, Mekorma MICR is not yet supported.
  • Some other third-party add-ons for GP are also not yet supported.
