If you use custom security roles in CRM (and who doesn’t) then you may run into this issue when you update to CRM 2015 UR1. One of our users brought this to my attention after our upgrade last night.

The user was hitting this permissions error when using Quick Find:

Oddly enough the Universal Search did work and accessing Account records was not a problem. It only seemed to be running the Quick Find search.

Unfortunately this permissions error did not provide the helpful “Download Log” file button, so I had to play a little whack-a-role to find the permission that caused this issue.

It turns out to be a Read permission on the Process permission under the Customization tab as shown here:

This role did not have any permissions to Process in CRM 2015 but apparently for CRM 2015 UR1 this is now needed, at least for Quick Find. I set the Read to full Organization level and Quick Find worked again.

Note: I did not test to see if the User, Business Unit, or Parent Child permissions fixed the issue. I simply set it to full Org. One of the others may work as well.
