The Latest Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Features
Microsoft releases two updates per year for its Dynamics 365 applications. These updates often include a variety of new features, module adjustments, and other capabilities. Microsoft provides release notes for each update so you can read about the latest enhancements in detail. Here are some highlights about what’s coming for Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Let’s break down the features available for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as of October 2021.
Top 10 Features in the October 2021 Business Central Release
With new features and updates to the performance and reliability of Business Central, there’s plenty for customers to like in this release. Here’s what we’re particularly excited about for Business Central 2021 release wave 2.
Bank Rec Enhancements
Payment Reconciliation Journal users can now separate number series, preview postings, and reverse any G/L register postings. Meanwhile, Bank Reconciliations have been streamlined with simplified overview displays, a cleaner user interface, and a toggle option for overwriting auto-match data.
With the latest update, your sales and purchase documents can contain different line types, with a default suggestion offered whenever you create a document. You can also specify the default type from the Sales & Receivable Setup page or Purchase & Payables Setup page. You can choose between line types such as G/L Account, Item, Resource, and Fixed Asset, and you can change the line type whenever you want. This used to be a customization, so including line types into the updated software is a handy change.
Improved Posting Error User Experience
The posting error module for insufficient or incomplete setup has been improved. Now, the software will learn to identify errors based on concrete examples so that every user can properly post specific transactions. The Error Messages page will also give context for any notifications with suggestions for how to update the entry properly.
You can now set locations for non-inventory items and other intangibles to make the reporting process more manageable. This update also allows your team to view statistics for these items, such as where specific services are purchased. The location is visible in values and job and item ledgers.
Enhanced Location-Specific Manufacturing Functionality
With this latest update, you can assign stock keeping units (SKUs) to production bills of material (BOMs) and routes across even more business processes. It’s now possible to assign SKUs for planning purposes and capable-to-promise systems.
Enhanced Integration with Microsoft Teams
A small but mighty change for Microsoft shops that use Team and Business Central—the latest release includes improved search term functionality. Users can enter multiple words and special characters in the contact search module.
Continued Performance Improvements
As is typical for release waves, Microsoft has optimized performance for Business Central and its peripheral clients. Users can enjoy faster load times and improved displays.
April 2021 Features You May Have Missed
Have you made the most of the last wave of features? Read on to see if you’ve missed anything!
This top convenience upgrade came out in the April 2021 release. You can now edit, add, and remove dimensions on posted General Ledger entries to ensure your financial data is accurate for reporting. Users had to book journal entries to make such adjustments in the past, which took much more time.
Additional Insights for Lot-Tracked Inventory
Business Central added a new option to track lots of inventory. With the introduction of Availability by Lot, Business Central enables users to set on-hand quantities for each lot and connect those amounts to forecasted transactions.
Bank Statement Import Simplification
Mapping bank files is now much more intuitive and far less technical. When you download a transaction file, you can configure the import to fit within a specific mapping. So, no matter if you’ve downloaded a .txt or .csv flat file or even comma- or semicolon-separated files, you can quickly transfer data into Business Central fields.
