2025 Microsoft Dynamics GP Pricing Guide
How Much Does Microsoft Dynamics GP Cost?

Your cost for Dynamics GP will depend on the size of your team and the number of user licenses you purchase. Under the perpetual license model, the software starts at $5,000 (a one-time fee) for the Starter Pack, which includes three full concurrent users. Implementation starts at about $25,000 to $35,000 to set up the software’s core accounting functionality. However, you’ll incur additional fees based on the increased need for software support. Read on to learn why GP is becoming a costlier solution for new and existing users.
Can I Still Buy Dynamics GP?
With Microsoft turning its focus away from Dynamics GP in favor of cloud operational software like Business Central, license purchases are accruing restrictions.
Starting on April 1, 2025, no perpetual licenses will be sold to new customers. And one year later—on April 1, 2026—GP will no longer be available for purchase.
What happens to current Dynamics GP customers when these changes take effect? Current GP customers can still purchase perpetual licenses until at least 2028, with no requirements to transition to a Services Provider License Agreement (SPLA). However, Microsoft has set a firm deadline for the Dynamics GP’s lifespan—software support will end in 2029, and security patches will only continue through 2031.
Our pricing calculator includes cost breakdowns for purchasing Dynamics GP with new perpetual licenses. But keep in mind that there is a limited window to purchase Dynamics GP as a new product, and there are numerous other options if you’re in the market for new ERP software. These alternatives offer longevity for your selected system and eliminate the risks and roadblocks associated with unsupported and insecure software.
Licensing Options for Dynamics GP
Microsoft gives Dynamics GP customers a choice in what type of software license they want.
Perpetual Licenses
Perpetual GP licenses are purchased directly by your company for a large up-front cost. There is no cloud option for perpetual licenses—they are deployed on-premises or in servers hosted by software partners. Microsoft charges a yearly fee to keep you under the Annual Enhancement Plan, which offers updates for security and support.
Other Licensing Options
Microsoft’s Services Provider License Agreement (SPLA) is also referred to as a “subscription license.” In this scenario, a software partner purchases licenses directly from Microsoft, then leases them out to your organization. This license is simply a repackaging of the perpetual license that relies on monthly costs rather than an annual fee. However, because you subscribe to the software through the third-party provider, if you stop paying for Dynamics GP, you will lose access. Pricing is highly variable between SPLA providers.
What Is the End of Dynamics GP Going to Cost?
Microsoft is “sunsetting” Dynamics GP. Effectively, that means the software will not receive any new features, and updates will be small-scale patches for security and compliance. This may not seem like a big deal, but there are two crucial things to keep in mind.
Firstly, Microsoft has not announced what support will look like for Dynamics GP after 2028. There is no guarantee that security updates, hosting, and other essential aspects of your GP solution will still be around five years from now. Microsoft’s software partners are already sidelining support for Dynamics GP, with most not even selling the software anymore.
Secondly, the entire software landscape is focusing on the cloud and other innovations. Because GP won’t receive significant updates, the software will start to fall behind. If you integrate other tools with GP—even if they are solutions from Microsoft—you’re prone to experiencing breaks that are time-consuming and expensive to repair.
This pricing calculator only shows you what a new GP implementation or license would cost right now. What it can’t predict is just how difficult upkeep will become in the next few years.
Is Purchasing Dynamics GP a Good Financial Decision?
Cargas has been with Dynamics GP since 1993, when it was known as Great Plains, which gives our team a unique and rich perspective on ERP solutions and how they align with business budgets. As it stands, it’s not worthwhile purchasing Dynamics GP if you’re in the market for new ERP software.
If you care about software ROI and keeping your systems running smoothly, we have several recommendations for solutions, including financial software like Sage Intacct or powerful operational tools like Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Microsoft partners like Cargas even offer a Bridge to the Cloud program to smooth the transition between Dynamics GP and Business Central—a sign that Business Central is Microsoft’s preferred ERP for customers.
