And, with Microsoft officially sunsetting Dynamics GP by April 2031, it’s important to make the best possible software purchase decision for your company’s long-term success. Functionality
While Sage Intacct and Dynamics GP are both accounting-focused solutions, Sage Intacct leans more toward the finance side, while Dynamics GP was built with additional operational features.
Sage Intacct is the ultimate accounting solution. It’s GAAP compliant and the first and only financial management software endorsed by the AICPA. Sage Intacct’s shared chart of accounts and dimensional reporting capabilities allow you to slice and dice data however you need. Sage Intacct offers some general operational functionality, but those capabilities are basic, so companies with more complex needs may need integrated add-ons to make the most of their software.
On the other hand, Dynamics GP is a broader ERP solution with functionality for HR and payroll, supply chain management, and manufacturing. Remember that as of October 2022, Dynamics GP no longer receives new features; yearly updates are limited to support and security patches, which will end in 2029 and 2031, respectively.
Best-in-Class vs. All-in-One
When it comes to software design, best-in-class solutions stand out due to their focused feature sets and extensive integration capabilities. Best-in-class products serve one specific area of a business. As a result, they come equipped with robust integration capabilities to let users mix and match their favorite solutions. When you use best-in-class software like Sage Intacct, you benefit from robust functionality and flexibility to combine software and build your ideal solution.
As a more traditional ERP solution, Dynamics GP covers many business areas, from accounting to HR to supply chain management. Due to this breadth, feature strength varies across the product. And, because Dynamics GP is a Microsoft solution, its integrations are limited compared to Sage Intacct’s. As Dynamics GP support wanes, integrations will be more prone to breaking and difficult to repair.
Price
At first glance, Sage Intacct comes at a much higher cost than Dynamics GP. However, it’s essential to consider both software products’ short-term and long-term costs. In the case of Sage Intacct, the price covers its deep accounting features and ability to integrate seamlessly with countless third-party solutions. For one monthly subscription fee, you’ll have access to countless benefits like cloud hosting and hands-off software updates, all designed to save your team time and money in the long run.
For many years, Dynamics GP offered two pricing structures—a subscription-based license and a one-time perpetual license, while add-on packages for HR, budgeting, and other modules came at an additional cost. However, as of April 1, 2026, no new or perpetual GP licenses will be sold. Only existing GP customers on active enhancement plans can add users and functionality beyond this date.
Deployment
Dynamics GP and Sage Intacct represent different eras of business software; GP is a legacy solution that has gradually evolved, while Sage Intacct is designed with contemporary business practices in mind.
Sage Intacct is a cloud solution and cannot be deployed on-premise. Its cloud platform lets you access the software anywhere, anytime, from any device. There are no hardware requirements or ongoing hardware costs associated with the software. Upgrades are managed by Sage Intacct and rolled out automatically, with no downloads or installations required on your end.
Dynamics GP can be hosted in the cloud, but it was initially designed as an on-premise solution and typically performs best in that environment. Whether Dynamics GP is deployed in the cloud or on-premise, upgrades must be scheduled with Microsoft or your software provider—they do not happen automatically. Note that as Microsoft says goodbye to Dynamics GP, updates will be small and focused mainly on security; there is no guarantee that updates, if any, will be rolled out once security and support end.
Sum It Up
If you’re considering Sage Intacct and Dynamics GP, you’ll need to determine whether you need specialized financial functionality or broad capabilities that cover multiple areas of your business. Sage Intacct offers drill-down capabilities and advanced reporting and dashboarding beyond what you’ll get from other, more general ERP solutions. Still, features outside its accounting stack (like inventory) are basic, and you’ll need to integrate it with different solutions to cover all your business needs.
Dynamics GP is a tried-and-true ERP solution with plenty of broad coverage, tackling everything from accounting and HR to manufacturing and supply chain management. However, Microsoft is moving away from Dynamics GP to prioritize cloud ERP software such as Business Central, so an investment in Dynamics GP is not a reliable long-term strategy.
