Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 Release Wave 1 Features

Learn more about the features coming to Business Central this April.

The first 2023 release for Microsoft’s Business Central solution launches in April, bringing BC users a slew of exciting new features. Let’s break down the top new features coming to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in the first 2023 release.

Table Fields Unlocked for Users

The feature we’re most excited about is one that users have wanted for a while. As of the April 2023 release, Business Central users can add table fields to pages without extensions or developer assistance. Personalization is totally streamlined, so users can add out-of-the-box or custom fields on the fly.

Exchange Rate Adjustment Preview for Multi-Currency

When your team is preparing to post to an account, you can now preview the impact that adjusted exchange rates will have on the posting. This gives your team more flexibility and transparency with multi-currency operations.

Additional preview functionality was added to several other documents across the software, including item journals, warehouse entries and shipments, outputs, recurring consumption and capital journals, and more. This means your team can double-check information before posting it to the GL.

Alterations for Default Posting Groups

Former Dynamics GP users will be familiar with this new feature, which lets users select different ledger accounts for payables and receivables. Now that substitutions are enabled, users can replace default customer or vendor posting groups depending on preference.

Intercompany Posting to Improve Visibility

The latest Business Central release allows users to manage accounting activities for groups of companies, not just individual ones. All inter-company features have been grouped onto the new Intercompany Setup page, which is where you’ll set up parameters, handle transactions, and more.

Enhancements for Dimensions

This release marks the completion of the Default Dimension on Location feature, adding functionality suggested on Microsoft’s Application Ideas site. Users can finally set default dimensions based on location and drill down into specifics such as Item Journals and Production Journals. Defaults are also available for inventory document and journal dimensions.

Non-Inventory Items Included in Warehouse Sales Documents

Another feature added by popular demand allows users to ship and receive non-inventory items alongside physical goods rather than separately. Non-inventory items such as delivery charges can now be directly associated with a warehouse sales document, which helps your team track every aspect of a shipment.

More Granularity for Warehouse Functionality

Users can dive deeper into warehouse features with the latest release, as tools once available only for locations using directed put-away and pick are accessible across the board. Zones, movement worksheets, bin replenishment calculations and capacity policies, warehouse class checks, and more are available.

Enhancements to Business Central Cards in Teams

Microsoft shops will enjoy deeper functionality for Business Central records in Microsoft Teams. Cards no longer require additional sign-ins for users on both solutions, and the sizing and layout of cards have been overhauled to optimize space.

Collect Financial Data for Non-Financial Accounts

Statistical accounts are non-financial accounts that impact the bottom line and include information such as “dollars shipped per employee per hour” and “customers served across market spend.” By adding statistical accounts to Business Central, Microsoft empowers your business to easily gather and analyze all the data your accounting team needs.

Return and Refund Synchronization with Shopify

Business Central’s integration with Shopify is a powerful e-commerce tool, and it’s made even stronger with the April 2023 release. Refunds and returns recorded in Shopify will automatically import to Business Central as you synchronize orders, creating data cohesion across both platforms.
