Microsoft Announces End of Support for Dynamics GP.

Dynamics GP End Of Life

TABLE OF CONTENTS

As of September 2029, Microsoft Dynamics GP will officially reach the end of its support lifecycle. Microsoft will continue providing critical security patches only until April 2031, but feature updates and regular support will stop.

Dynamics GP Sunset: A Timeline

This news isn’t surprising—Microsoft is squarely focused on its new cloud products and has been signaling a GP sunset for several years. Here’s how we got here.

April 2018: Microsoft Releases Dynamics 365 Business Central. To keep up with new cloud technology, Microsoft rewrites Dynamics NAV (an on-premises solution) for the cloud. Rebranded Dynamics 365 Business Central, it’s a solution for small and mid-size businesses and the natural successor to Dynamics GP.

October 2019: GP Moves to Modern Lifecycle Support. Starting with GP 18.2, the Modern Lifecycle support policy, requires users to install one of the three annual updates (released in June, October, and November/December) to receive full product support from Microsoft.

September 2021: Microsoft Launches Bridge to Cloud. This program offers discounted Business Central licenses for Dynamics GP customers.

October 2022: GP 18.5 Announced as Last Feature Release. Microsoft Vice President Michael Morton announces that GP 18.5 will be the last release with major new features and that, going forward, the product will receive routine maintenance with regulatory and security updates only.

January 2023: Microsoft Extends Its Bridge to Cloud Promotion. Microsoft continues to encourage on-premises customers to migrate to its cloud solutions.

April 2023: Dynamics GP License Changes. Microsoft announces that on April 1, 2025, GP will move to a subscription-only model for new customers. And starting April 1, 2026, no new or perpetual GP licenses will be sold. Only existing GP customers on active enhancement plans are able to add users and functionality beyond this date.

September 2024: Microsoft Announces GP Sunset Date. Microsoft announces September 2029 as the end of support for Dynamics GP.
